THE 2024 DODGE CHARGER EV ADDS MUSCLE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM

AN ELECTRIC CAR WITH AN EXHAUST SYSTEM…DID I HEAR THAT RIGHT!

Yes, there is an exhaust system in the new 2024 Dodge Charger EV. How is that possible you ask, the short answer is science and technology.

In the previous article I wrote about the demise of the Chrysler 300, which is soon to be followed by the Dodge muscle cars that we’ve come to know and love. 2023 will signify the end of production for many of the high powered muscle machinesDodge has been producing all of which will eventually be replaced by electrified versions.

Since Dodge is known for producing ground shaking high horsepower and torque muscle cars how could they not do the same with an electric vehicle. Enter the 2024 Dodge Charger EV which will not have a gas guzzling monster V8 under the hood BUT it will sound like it does.

The 2024 Charger EV will be built on the STLA Large platform, which can store battery packs of sizes ranging from 101 to 118 kWh and offer a range of up to 500 miles on a single charge and actually appears muscular with some really cool styling as seen in the photo below which includes a bulge in the hood minus the open air scoop of course.

The Charger EV will come in different grades, with base and mid-level grades powered by a 400-volt electric powertrain and the range-topping Daytona SRT Banshee featuring a more powerful 800-volt powertrain, potentially producing over 1,000 hp with upgrade options.

Now comes the science and technology part, Dodge is putting an electronic exhaust sound system in the car that can mimic the exhaust sound of a Hellcat V8 by producing a 126 decibel Hemi V8 roar which will emanate from the rear of the car.

The system is known as the Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust system which is capable of matching the exhaust sound of the Hellcat. Dodge’s press release is a little light on the details, without much info about specs. The only real performance spec we have is that the concept will be powered by Dodge’s 800V electric all-wheel drive propulsion system, named Banshee. Dodge wants this Banshee branding to evoke the same level of performance as its other high-horsepower brands, like Hemi, Hellcat, and Redeye.

The electric Charger concept comes with three amazing features;

  • R-Wing: intended to increase aerodynamic efficiency while maintaining the Charger’s characteristic bulky front-end.
  • eRupt transmission: a multi-speed electro-mechanical transmission intended to deliver distinct shift-points, rather than smooth transitions from one gear to the next, giving the same “jerking” feeling of gear shifts in a gas car – and a “push-to-pass” button for a quick boost of power.
  • Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust: an exhaust system.

Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis says the electrified charger “exists because performance made us do it” – a reference to Dodge’s new marketing slogan. He claims that the Banshee-powered electric Dodge Charger will “run a blazing quarter-mile,” though didn’t specify just how fast that quarter-mile would be.

When in 2024 this vehicle will be available is still totally unknown at this point, and with the current-generation Charger and Challenger ending production in December 2023, that could be sooner rather than later. Expect more information onDodge’s electrified future in the coming months. In the meantime just Google 2024 Dodge Charger EV and play any of the available videos that will let hear the sound an electric exhaust system can make.
