Telo MT1: A Compact Electric Truck with Big Capabilities
EV startups are struggling, but Telo Trucks might have found the right formula. The California-based company is introducing the MT1, a compact electric pickup that’s the size of a Mini Cooper yet boasts the hauling power of a Toyota Tacoma. With 500 horsepower, a 60-inch truck bed, and an estimated 350-mile range, the $50,000 price tag seems promising.
Telo was founded by Jason Marks and Forrest North, both with backgrounds in Tesla and Mission Motors. Unlike many EV startups chasing luxury sedans, Telo is following the path of small, practical Japanese trucks. At just 152 inches long, the MT1 offers the same bed length as a Toyota Tacoma, fitting large items like 4×8 plywood sheets and surfboards with ease.
Its unique battery placement maximizes interior space, making room for five passengers. However, Telo has yet to confirm battery details or EPA-certified range estimates. The company claims the truck can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
Performance-wise, the MT1’s dual-motor setup delivers 500 hp and a 0-60 mph time of four seconds. Weighing 4,400 pounds, it features a switchable 4WD system for added efficiency and traction. Designed for urban adventurers, the truck blends practicality with power, offering a fresh take on the electric pickup market.
Telo’s success will depend on execution, but with its unique size, strong capabilities, and competitive pricing, the MT1 could carve out a niche in the growing EV truck segment.
