Remember This Car?

Ford Maverick

For all that guessed Ford Maverick, you are getting on in years!  Ford produced the Maverick from 1970 through 1977 as inexpensive transportation in a compact package. Many jokes were directed towards the Maverick, however Ford sold 579,000 of them in that first year of production.

Now you might have laughed whenever a Maverick pulled up next to you at a stop light, be that as it may, more than one Chevy owner was embarrassed by a Maverick “Grabber” equipped with a 302 cubic inch V8 under the hood, but this article is not about the original Ford Maverick, it is about resurrecting the Maverick nameplate into a new Ford compact pickup truck called….you guessed it, the Maverick.

What you see in the photo below is a spy shot of Ford testing the new Maverick on the streets and highways near its assembly plant in Dearborn, Michigan. This truck will be slotted below the Ford Ranger and should be priced starting at under $20,000, kind of inexpensive by today’s standards kind of like the original Maverick.

This will be a 2022 model and will be built on the same platform that underpins the Ford Escape and the new Bronco Sport and will be front wheel drive. It is scheduled to go into production in July of this year.
